Wisdom & Justice Camp

Love and Belonging in High School

Camp basics

  • Many teens are full of wisdom and have a heart for justice. Yet no one is calling on teens to solve the problems we all face – division, loneliness, toxic stress, anxiety, depression, and violence.
  • Wisdom & Justice Camp helps teens cultivate their innate wisdom. Camp graduates will be invited to grow a culture of love and belonging at their school through High School Mindfulness Clubs.

Mindfulness Club at Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach, Florida (2021-2022).

Objectives

Wisdom & Justice Camp will focus on transmitting the following knowledge and skills to high school students:

  • Mindfulness skills in the Four Spheres of Awareness.
  • History of wisdom and other virtues in relevant social reform movements, including Civil Rights Movement.
  • Application of wisdom and other virtues for peace and justice in local high schools.

Concept

Soil & Soul and The Way Mindfulness Education have operated High School Mindfulness Clubs at four schools since 2018. Student leaders help run the clubs. Club members feel love and belonging at weekly club meetings on campus.

Too many students feel neither love nor belonging. Too many students feel intense loneliness and despair.

If we can extend the love and belonging of our High School Mindfulness Clubs to every student at our schools, we can prevent the overwhelming loneliness and depression that drive students to poor decisions and harmful actions.

Wisdom & Justice Camp can help student leaders cultivate their innate wisdom and take a leadership role in providing a loving and supportive environment for themselves and their peers. Camp graduates can join or start mindfulness clubs at their schools.

Requirements

  1. A deep and stable aspiration to grow mindfulness skills for individual wellness and collective justice.
  2. A commitment to build mindfulness community in local high schools for love and belonging.

Testimonials

FAYE, TEACHER

Mindfulness mentoring with Pablo re-directed my life into the light and into a positive space where I could be comfortable to grow in my questions. When I was uncomfortable in darkness, unable to feel calm or joy, mentoring and meditation allowed me to release the stranglehold of the mind and see how to be free of anxiety and self-sabotaging thoughts. Meditation has given me freedom from stresses that were preventing me from living and working. Thank you for your kindess and wisdom.

MINDFULNESS CLUB STUDENT

I can definitely say this club brought me out of my comfort zone. It allowed me to do things that I honestly would never do to better my mental health. I enjoyed meeting the people that I met and I’m happy to say that I’ve been apart of this club for 3 years now! Wouldn’t change it for anything, students should
definitely join!
